Taking Care of the Elderly in Hot Weather


 

It is lovely to see the sunshine and feel the warmth of the sun but we must be aware that we lose a lot of moisture through our skin and keeping well hydrated is important. As we get older we often forget to drink enough so please make sure that you have a glass of water or squash nearby whenever you’re resting so that you can easily get a drink. Our staff can help you with this and will remind you to have a drink regularly.

For those of you who enjoy going out please remember in this hot weather to wear a hat as the sun can be very fierce especially for those of you who have less hair up top. Try and avoid walking too far in the heat if you do go out use a car or ask someone to take you out as walking too far in the sun can cause heat stroke. If you do go out and start to feel unwell then find somewhere cool and in the shade and rest or a while.

We will be happy to help and advise you on enjoying this lovely weather without getting ill. But if you do get ill then call the NHS helpline on 111 as they can advise you on what to do.
